CORTO IN ACCADEMIA 2020 CALL for PARTICIPANTS The Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata promotes the 6th edition of "CORTO IN ACCADEMIA", an international contest for independent short films.

The goal is to develop the potential of new languages through the collection of animation and/or video works, whose realization can be traced back to teaching and cultural activities of Italian and European Academies of Fine Arts.
In this edition, "Corto in Accademia" starts a new section of the competition called "OPEN CALL" addressed to all emerging video makers, under 35 years of age, authors of works of all nationalities and languages, provided that the works are in Italian/English or subtitled in Italian/English. This section will be paired with a specific theme each year. The title of theme chosen for this year is "THINK!", concerning the environmental protection and eco-sustainability. The works submitted for this section should include a message of strong emotional and ethical impact in poetic, narrative and/or documentary form, related to the indicated topic.
The 2020 edition of the competition will be held in Macerata at the Svoboda Auditorium of Macerata Fine Arts Academy; during the final evening, a gala award ceremony will take place.
The contest is open to works of the following categories:
- Short films (fiction or non-fiction) - Animation - Videoclip
lasting maximum 10 minutes (opening titles and closing credits included), produced by Italian and/or European Academies of Fine Arts after 1st January 2019.
The new section named "OPEN CALL: THINK!" is open to all kinds of short films (fiction, animation, music, documentary, experimental), lasting maximum 10 minutes (opening titles and closing credits included), produced after 1st January 2019 by emerging and independent video makers (Italian and foreign), aged no more than 35 years. As indicated in the title of the specific section, the short films shall deal compulsorily (and under penalty of exclusion) with a reflection on issues related to the environment and eco-sustainability.
The authors shall indicate in the application form the topic which inspired him in the production of the short film and shall clearly specify the category/section to be included in among the ones indicated above and shall send, along with the registration, a production note-sheet (including plot summary and reasons for the choice of the topic).
In all the sections of the contest, works which have already won other contests aren’t allowed, and only one work per author/film maker or group of authors /filmmakers will be admitted. Short films already submitted to previous editions of “Corto in Accademia” will not be accepted.
The participation in the competition in the section dedicated to students of Italian and European Academies and Institutions of Higher Education is free of charge.
The participation in the "OPEN CALL: THINK!" section has a registration fee of 30,00 €; a copy of the payment receipt shall be sent in attachment to the folder containing the participant's file (under penalty of exclusion).
Each participant from an Academy or a Higher Education Institution shall fill the online application form available on the competition website (http://cortoinaccademia.abamc.it) and shall deliver the video to the contact person appointed by the home Institution who will upload it to the dedicated video channel, no later than 23:30 on 28th December 2020.
Participants in the "OPEN CALL: THINK!" section shall fill the online form available on the competition website (http://cortoinaccademia.abamc.it) and submit the video along with the scanned copy of the receipt of the payment of the registration in a zipped folder via wetransfer directly to: This email address is being protected from spambots. For the payment of the registration fee a bank transfer shall be issued on the account registered to the Academy of Fine Arts of Macerata, IBAN IT 79 I 03 1111 3401 000000 18062, indicating in the case: "Registration Open Call CORTO 2020".
All the works submitted to the Festival "Corto in Accademia" will be previewed by a preselecting international commission, composed of a group of experts from European Academies of Fine Arts plus an external member, who will select 3 (three) finalist works for each category "in competition" for the awards assignment.
The President and the members of the International Commission will be indicated by decree of the Directorate of the Academy of Fine Arts of Macerata and published on the website of the competition (http://cortoinaccademia.abamc.it).
The results of the pre-selection by the international commission will be published on the web page of the contest (http://cortoinaccademia.abamc.it). The selected short films will be shown on Thursday, 28th May 2020.
The works "in competition" will be then evaluated by a Technical Jury composed by artists, critics, journalists and representatives of the audiovisual field, who will select the final winners. The members of the Technical Jury will be appointed by decree of the Directorate of Macerata Fine Arts Academy. The award ceremony takes place during the gala evening on Thursday, 28th May, and the decisions coming from the votes of the International Commission and the Technical Jury are to be considered as incontestable and will be published on the website of the competition (http://cortoinaccademia.abamc.it).
During the Festival the short films selected by the International Commission for the final will be shown and the following prizes will be awarded:
- “Best Short Film” (500,00 € and a plaque) - “Best Videoclip” (500,00 € and a plaque) - “Best animation short film” (500,00 € and a plaque) - “Best theme Short Film, Open Call Section” (1.000,00 € and a plaque) - WEB Award (a plaque), decided by people voting on the web channel of the contest
The Prizewinners shall include in the opening credits of the winning works the name and logo of Macerata Fine Arts Academy and the award obtained, in case of presentations or distributions of their works taking place after the present contest.
The prizes will be awarded to the authors or their delegates who will assure their participation in the award ceremony, previously agreed with the organizing management of the Competition. The Academy of Fine Arts of Macerata will take charge of the accommodation of the finalists participating in the awards night at local hotels.
The entry of a short film in the competition implies the free assignment (non-exclusive) to Macerata Fine Arts Academy of the rights of the work for purposes related to the promotion of the initiative.
The works submitted can also be used by the Academy of Fine Arts of Macerata in other areas (library, cultural centers, television stations, streaming, etc.) in the field of non-profit cultural activities and for the dissemination of the Competition "CORTO IN ACCADEMIA" and the proposed topics.
The stage Management of the Competition disclaims any responsibility for the reproduction of audiovisuals containing copyrighted material for which the SIAE position has not been regularized.
The personal data collected by the stage Management of the Competition will be processed in accordance with the D.Lgs. 30 June 2003, No. 196 - Code on the protection of personal data. The stage Management of the Competition has the right to make a final decision on the disputed cases and on what is not expressly provided for by this regulation, in accordance with the relevant legislation.
The stage Management of the Competition reserves the right to make changes to this regulation for technical and organizational needs.

Taking part in "Corto in Accademia" implies also the full acceptance of all the rules, as per admission application.
